I was listening to the new Threads Magazine podcast. Kenneth D. King's teacher told him that if it doesn't fit, everything else is a waste of time. I had already decided I needed a fresh start with a new blog and had the name of it. That quote was more than serendipity; it was confirmation.
I listened to the podcast on the train. I couldn't remember the whole line by the time I got home, so I started googling what I thought the quote was. My favorite store in the world said something similar: If it doesn't fit, nothing else matters. More confirmation because Nordstrom said it!
Fit! Fit! Fit! I will eventually get to couture and traditional tailoring techniques, but I am not cutting a single piece of fabric until I get a sloper. And so it begins ...
We're starting with the bodice. I have been working on a sloper forever, not actively, but pieces of it have been on my dining table for-ev-er. I thought I had cracked the code on New Year's Day. However, when I tried on the altered tissue, my FBA was off by inches. Sewing while sick, or maybe math while sick doesn't always work out. I had just gotten out of the hospital, so I forgive myself. I've lost 10 pounds since I made those alts and it still doesn't fit!
However, I'm starting this blog with the positive. I have switched patterns from Vogue 1004 to McCall's 2718. I don't think there's anything wrong with the Vogue pattern. I'm just tired of it and I only have one copy. I'm sick of tracing it. I have two copies of M2718 in a size 18, so I am going to make my alts directly on the tissue. This is not my usual style, but this is supposed to be a fresh start lol. The real magic of M2718 is that it has a DD cup option! I will still have to do an FBA, but I'm excited about starting with a DD.
It is pressed and ready to go. My ASL class is canceled tomorrow so it will be my Saturday project.
Wish me luck!
